Mr. Morris' assertion that global isolationism will topple the government because legitimization will attract investment that will lead to their ability to extract their vast supply oil and natural gas is just wrong-headed and disingenuous.
I truly hate to suggests a lack of candor by Mr. Morris, but in this case I hope after you read my response you will see why.
However first:
***Special Note: Here is my obiligatory high five to capitalism so that I will not get branded communist, socialist, or Marxist. It is unfortunately that even mild criticism today is branded as unpatriotic.
But like BHO, I guess in the end, I'll put my flag pin on to show what is already in my heart.
Capitalism: Nothing is perfect, just somethings are better than others. Capitalism is best!)
***Other Special Note: Here is the obligatory high-five to America so that I don't get branded as some type of unpatriotic hate-monger.
I love this country. She is the greatest and freest on earth. In many places, I would not even be able to write what I am about write below. God Bless America!***
Back to the response...
Mr. Morris wrongheaded and disingenuous.
Mr. Morris rightly notes that many multinationals do business with and invest in Iran. It is not due to Senator Obama, but their desire to increase profits. Does Mr. Morris believe that they will stop investing in Iran, if Mr. Obama maintained the same position as the President?
No. He knows this is not true due to the fact that only a few funds are "Terror free".
However, more insidiously and let's be clear, the President's true position is not the one given to the Israeli parliment. While the President's position in the press is don't talk to Iran. A number of US officials (Gates and Rice) actually do with the full consent and knowledge of Mr. Bush. Furthermore, many of Mr. Bush's friends from the Oil industry actually seek ways to help Iran access their oil reserves. But it's not just President Bush who effectively condone talking to Iran, but all American's who invest in mutual funds and stock investments that invest in companies that do business with Iran.
But even if we divested in investments that invested in companies that do business with Iran, would not China, India, and Europe invest-- all who need oil?
Further oil is sold as a commodity. Money will flow to who ever produces it. This is the power and sometimes bane of capitalism.
This is why the article is so disingenuous and mere double talk to suggest that we shouldn't talk to Iran.
It is our energy policies that have lead us to a place that the entire world is talking to Iran and President Bush and a long line of Democratic and Republican administrations that have lead us to this indentured servitude to oil producing cartels and energy traders.
Everyone knows this except too many "blue collar less and uneducated Americans" (notice I did not say whites, because I don't mean whites only) who focus on working hard every day and don't spend the time sifting through policy positions and trust various media to dispense "truth" to them.
Dick Morris is not one of them so he is being disingenuous in his statement.
As Conservatives, unfortunately Barack Obama is the only candidate left in the race with viable chance to break this oil induced slavery that we find ourselves in.
Third party alternatives like Bob Barr and Ron Paul can't win. John McCain wants to continue to fund Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the madrases all over the world by threating military action through saber rattling, even though we all know that our military is stretched so thin that we can't take on any serious military action against the state sponsors of terror until we fix our military. (See the mere threat of action drives prices up. You don't even have to attack.)
This is the one election that we can let them divide us in the blue and red. I love this country and even though I could potentially live anywhere. I was born here, raise here, and want to die here. However, many of our companies truly only seek profit (as they should) and their care for this great land in secondary or even tertiary to their patriotism.
Dick Morris knows this too, but power for Republicans is more important than the love for this country.
God Bless America!
